Sarah Daly

Sarah Daly is an Irish screenwriter, producer and musician, and co-founder of Hex Studios.

Her screenplays include Lord of Tears, The Black Gloves, The Devil’s Machine and The Reign of Queen Ginnarra, winner of the 2026 Rondo Award for Best Independent Film.

Her international work began through Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s hitRECord. She wrote Morgan M. Morgansen’s Date with Destiny, directed by and starring Gordon-Levitt, which premiered at Sundance in 2010. Its sequel, Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeenth Date: The Zeppelin Zoo, featured Channing Tatum and screened at South by Southwest. She later wrote the feature Kids vs Monsters, whose cast included Malcolm McDowell, Lance Henriksen and Armand Assante.

As Metaphorest, Daly writes and records music spanning folk and alternative pop. Anne Hathaway has performed her songs, while Sia performed Telephone, her collaboration with Mike Regan Noise, live in concert. Gary Oldman performed her short work Turnip Head. Her music and writing have appeared in hitRECord’s collaborative releases.

Alongside Lawrie Brewster, Daly develops and produces the studio’s original films. Her work connects screenwriting with the practical demands of independent production, from shaping scripts to sustaining the company and its relationships with audiences. Folklore, romanticism and psychological unease recur in her stories, giving the studio’s theatrical approach a foundation in character and language.
